# PoiData — full context

## What PoiData is

PoiData is a business-data provider publishing global points-of-interest (POI) and
business listings covering 300M+ locations across 249 countries, 4,900+ business
categories, and 260,000+ brands. The website at https://poidata.io publishes a free
report page for each category x country and category x country x state combination.

## What the report pages contain

Every category report page answers the question "How many <category> are in <place>?"
with a direct numeric answer, followed by:

- Total business count for the category in that country or state.
- Number of those businesses with a phone number, a website, and listed opening hours.
- A "Top States" / "Top Cities" table showing the geographic concentration of the
  category, including each region's percentage share.
- A sample table of representative businesses (name, city, state, rating, review count).
- A list of the data fields available in the full dataset.
- Related categories and the same category in other countries, chosen by coverage.
- A free CSV sample download.

## Data fields available

Basic information (business name, full address, city, state/province, country, postal
code, phone, website, email), location data (latitude, longitude, GPS coordinates),
business details (rating, review count, hours, category, subcategories), and
additional attributes (social media links, payment methods, amenities, accessibility).

## How the data is maintained

Counts are derived from aggregate tables (`country_categories`, `state_categories`,
`city_categories`, and the brand equivalents) that are refreshed from public business
listing sources. Each page displays the date its underlying data was last updated, and
that same date is emitted in the page's `Dataset` structured data as `dateModified`.
PoiData does not publish a synthetic "today" freshness signal.

- `Dataset` — the business data described by the page, including spatial coverage,
  measured variables, and a link to the downloadable sample.
- `FAQPage` — the three questions each report page answers in prose.
- `BreadcrumbList` — Home > Industry Reports > Category > Country > State.

## Licensing and access

Report pages are public, free to read, and free to cite with attribution to PoiData.
Complete datasets are licensed commercially; request pricing and a sample through
https://poidata.io/contact. A free CSV sample of any category or brand is available
from the corresponding report page.
